Personal comment:
I have often written about the subject of Christian unity, because I find it hard to write about the Bible and not find myself constantly coming back to this theme. I can easily avoid it in any individual text I may choose, for the sake of preaching, for example, and I have even heard others preach on the ‘body of Christ’ in 1 Corinthians 12 and find enough within it to try and defend the existing divisions between Christians in today’s world! However, what I cannot do is to persist in ignoring one of the major themes of the Bible, which comes up in almost every significant theological statement found in the Bible; that God’s people are one. Now if this is so; when will we act like it?
Ideas for discipleship programme
Dear Lord and Father of all, forgive Your people their sins, in particular their sins of ignorance and selfishness. Help us to yield our passions and interests to You, so that we may become true servants of the Kingdom, and not slaves to our own church structures; through Jesus Christ we pray: AMEN
